Mandarin Orange Pretzel Dessert

This classic dessert features a crunchy pretzel crust, a creamy center, and silky top with mandarin oranges and orange flavored gelatin.

Mandarin Orange Pretzel Dessert

Ingredients:
Crust:
2 cups crushed pretzels
3 tbsp sugar
3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Filling:
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
8 oz whipped topping, thawed
Topping:
1 box orange gelatin
1 cup boiling water
1 cup cold water
1 can Mandarins, drained

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°. Coat a 9x13 baking dish with nonstick spray. In a medium bowl, mix together the pretzels, sugar, and butter. Press evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Bake for 15 minutes, or until mixture is lightly toasted. Set aside to cool completely. In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese and sugar with a handheld mixer. Fold in the whipped topping until thoroughly combined. Spread evenly over the cooled pretzel layer, making sure it goes completely to the edges. Refrigerate until set, about 30-40 minutes.

In another medium bowl, whisk together the orange gelatin powder with 1 cup boiling water. Stir until completely dissolved. Then whisk in 1 cup of cold water. Gently mix in the mandarin orange slices.
Pour mixture over the cooled cream cheese layer. Refrigerate until completely chilled and set, about 3 hours. Slice and serve.

Note: Spread the cream cheese mixture over the top of the pretzel crust completely to the edges so the gelatin won't leak through.

Patriotic Clothespin Wreath

A beautiful and creative way to show some love for America.

Patriotic Clothespin Wreath

Supplies:
Wire Wreath Frame
Wood Stars 1 to 4 inches each
Acrylic paint : White, Blue, Red
Mini Glue Gun
Glue Sticks
Mod Podge Silicone Craft Mat
Clothespins

Painted all of the clothespins. Then paint the wooden stars.  When the clothespins and stars are dry, it was time to put them on the wire wreath frame.

The wreath frame has 4 wires.  When putting the clothespins on the frame, skip using the top (outside) wire and use the other three.  Started by putting the pin on the second wire and extending to the third wire.  The next pin starts on the third wire and ends on the bottom wire.  This way the clothespins sit at different angles and they look nice.  Alternated the clothespins all the way around the wreath frame.

Put all of the blue clothespins together.  Then put 5 red clothespins followed by 5 white pins then continued the pattern around the wire wreath frame.

Next hot glue the stars onto the blue clothespins.  When gluing the stars for this project, make sure you use a high temperature glue gun.  The high temperature will make sure that the stars stay glued to the clothespins, especially when the wreath is outside in weather.

Glow in the Dark Sand

What could be more fun than playing and exploring with glow in the dark sand?

Glow in the Dark Sand

Materials:
Epsom salts
Zip seal bags
Glow in the dark or fluorescent paint

Instructions:
Place the desired amount of salt in a zip seal bag, one bag for each color of sand you want to make. Then add a squirt or two of glow in the dark or fluorescent paint. Seal the bags and mix until all of the salt crystals are saturated in color.

Once the salt crystals are saturated open the bags and allow the salt to dry.  Drying will take roughly 24 hours.  You can lay the salt out on cookie sheets to dry faster, or you can let it dry right in the bag
The salt may clump together a bit as it dries but will easily break apart once it is handled.  Once the salt is dry pour it into storage container.

Cherry Tomato Tulips

Cherry Tomato Tulips

Ingredients:
15 Large Cherry Tomatoes
16 stalks of chives
8 oz. cream cheese
1 cucumber
1 teaspoon dried basil
Salt and pepper

 Directions:
With stem side down, cut a cross in the top of each cherry tomato (about ¾ down the tomato).

Using a spoon (grapefruit spoon works very well) to gently scrape out the tomato seeds.

Take a grilling skewer or toothpick and make a hole where the stem currently is. You may need to twist the skewer in a circle a few times to make room for the chive to fit through.

Finely chop or grate cucumber.

Mix cream cheese, cucumber and basil in a bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Add a teaspoon of cream cheese mixture into each tomato tulip (adjust depending on size of tomatoes).

Insert a chive into the hole at the bottom of each tomato.

Use a damp paper towel to clean any excess cream cheese filling from outside of tomatoes.

Prepare the tulip bouquet on a large plate or platter. Use the extra chive stalk to wrap around the tulip stems to complete the bouquet.

Keep chilled until ready to serve. It is best served the same day as they are made.
